Our purposes can be summarized in two scriptures from the book of Matthew. They are commonly called “The Great Commandment” and “The Great Commission.”
Foundation Verses
The Great Commandment
“Love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and prophets hang on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:7-40
The Great Commission
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” —Mathew 28:19-20
These scriptures give us the five core purposes for which the church was created:
• Fellowship. “Baptizing them...”
• Discipleship. “Teaching them to obey...”
• Ministry. “Love your neighbor as yourself...”
• Evangelism. “Go and make disciples...”
• Worship. “Love the Lord with all your heart...”
These five purposes are reflected in our process of KNOW GROW GO
Instead of growing the church through PROGRAMS, we focus on growing people through a PROCESS of MAKING DISCIPLES – one that matures every Christian into a reproducing disciple.
